Friday, October 13 13. Using the Incident Command System (ICS) and the Principles of National Incident Management System (NIMS) to Manage Emergencies in our Facilities, While Caring for the Individuals We Support, Our Staff, and OurselvesIn this session, we will briefly review the roles in an Incident Command System, and the use of this process in a real-life emergency, while managing leadership ‘span of control’. We will outline the value of Emergency Preparedness using the principles of National Incident Management System (NIMS). We will examine obstacles, common mistakes, and making the process accessible to staff that are unaccustomed to working in an Emergency Operations mindset. We hope to ‘compare notes’ with those in the room, and talk through any problems, and promote creative solutions. Also, attendees will have an opportunity to ‘build out’ their ICS, using information from the session to match with skill sets of their staff.
